Walking Trails in Whitney Oaks Print E-mail

Hiking trails near Springfield at Whitney Oaks There are nine walking trails that weave throughout Whitney Oaks. The use of these trails is for the enjoyment of all Springfield residents as well as other Whitney Oaks residents. The trails range in length from 568 feet to almost one mile. All together, there are 3.3 miles of trails and over 2 miles of them are paved. The trails are mainly located in the common areas of Whitney Oaks and many of them are on the hillsides that surround the golf course.

The trails afford a walk through nature to enjoy the abundance of nature’s flora along with the magnificent views of downtown Sacramento , the Sierra mountains and the Sutter Buttes — sometimes called the smallest mountain range in the world — which is located only an hour's drive from Springfield.

Much of the Whitney Oaks common area is a protected natural greenbelt where you will find deer, an occasional coyote, doves, pheasant, and quail that share the foliage with an abundance of wild turkeys. There are also owls, hawks, turkey buzzards (vultures) and other birds that inhabit this greenbelt consisting of a large number of oaks, pines and other trees.
